Yesterday I went on a trip to Fossil Creek, Arizona and had a great time. It was a great day trip (about 2 hours from where I live).
If you live in Arizona, and are planning to make a trip here is some advice:
- Go early! The park will be blocked off it to many people are down by the creek. This happens especially on holidays
- There are two very viable options at the creek: drive right down to the creek and swim (which is what we did) or park at the top of the mountain (Fossil Springs Rd) and hike about four miles down to the spring and falls. The falls tend to be more crowded, but also more beautiful.
- The road: Do Not be suprised by just how bad the roads really are. It is slow and bumpy ride all the the way down. If you are going to drive right up to the creek instead of hiking, the road is about 7-10 miles of jumpy ride and takes around 15-20 minutes
- You can do this drive in a compact car, but if you have the option, an suv or truck would be more capible
- Check the weather before you go, you dont want to get stuck down at the creek in your compact car if it rains
- Bring your bathing suit! and your hiking shoes!
- Bring lunch, its a long and bumpy road you dont want to travel back until you leave, so pack good snacks
- Bring the kids, and dogs if you want
This place was such a beautiful trip! The water is a little chilly, but perfect after a short hike. Another amazing thing was all the wildlife you get to see!
Without further ado, here are a few of the pictures I took of Fossil Creek:
